DistributionScattered from the Mountains to the Sandhills and inner Coastal Plain (Robeson County); disjunct to Roanoke Island (Dare County). Certainly found in many more counties, but not yet collected from them.

Native to China, Korea, Japan; in N.A. MA to southern Ont., and IL, south to GA and LA; CA.
AbundanceRare to infrequent, but expected elsewhere.
HabitatRoadsides, road banks, margin of woods, thickets, creekside.
PhenologyFlowering March-April (-May).
IdentificationBridal-wreath Spiraea sends up one to several erect to leaning stems which are generally covered with small white flowers and very showy, early in spring, without leaves "getting in the way". The leaves arrive later, elliptical to ovate, 1-4 cm long.
